Recipe Ingredients: Red, White and Blue Ambrosia Salad

Ingredient Notes, Substitutions & Additions
Cool Whip: Any whipped topping is just fine, or you can make your own homemade whipped cream!
Additions: Crushed nuts, granola, maraschino cherries, or pomegranate seed are all great, festive additions to this salad!
Swaps: You can absolutely sub or swap the fruit based on the holiday! Valentine’s day? Stick with strawberries or cherries. Christmas? Try raspberries, dried cranberries, and green grapes or apples. Some other classic ambrosia salad fruits are: pineapple, mandarin oranges, and canned fruit cocktail.
Sour cream: You can swap this for Greek yogurt.
Coconut: This is optional but I love the sweetness and texture. I typically use sweetened coconut flakes.
Expert Tips
- Storage: Store the salad in an airtight container for 1-3 days. The moisture in the the fruit will start to release so make sure to give it a big stir before serving leftovers.
- Make ahead: This salad is best when refrigerated 1-2 hours before serving.
- Experiment! You really can’t mess up this salad, so feel free to experiment with your favorite mix-ins…chocolate chips, sprinkles, different fruit…go crazy!!
