Ingredient Notes & Substitutions
Ham: This recipe hits the spot if you have leftover Easter or Christmas ham. But sometimes I crave this ham salad in the ham off-season! 🙂 If that’s the case, it works just as well to use deli ham or lunchmeat. I like buying deli ham from the counter as in generally contains less water.
Eggs: Hard-boiled eggs add some protein and I love them in this recipe. If you’re in hurry or don’t want them, feel free to leave them out.
How to Make Homemade Ham Salad
Step 1: Use a food processor to get your ham perfectly chopped
Step 2: Add chopped ham and all other salad ingredients to a large bowl.
Step 3: Mix well and enjoy!
Expert Tips
- Ways to enjoy: This ham salad is great as a little snack with crackers. You can also pile it onto sliced bread, add a little lettuce and it’s the BEST ham sandwich you’l ever eat! Last, if you’re low carbin’ it, wrap the ham salad in lettuce for a ham and lettuce wrap.
- Deli ham: If you want to make this recipe with sliced ham, try to get ham from the deli counter as it has less water in it. If you get pre packaged ham, just make sure you pat the slices “dry” with paper towels so there isn’t any excess moisture to make your ham salad soggy.
- Food processor: If you want that “old-fashioned” or deviled ham texture, the food processor is the way to go. If you’re not that concerned, then you can just finely chop the ham.
- Color: If you are serving this as an appetizer for a party, garnish it with a little chopped fresh parsley for a pop of color and freshness.
