Recipe Ingredients
You’ll need the following ingredients to make this patriotic fruit salad:
Ingredient Notes, Substitutions & Additions
Apples: We love pink lady and fuji apples in this salad, but any variety will work.
Mint: The addition of chopped fresh mint adds a nice touch of green and also a freshness to this summer fruit salad.
Other berries: Blackberries and raspberries are great red/blue additions!
Sugar: Sugar is totally optional. Depending how sweet and in-season your fruit is, you may not need it. Add it, to taste. I usually start with about a teaspoon.
Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream: I like serving whipped cream or ice cream alongside this fruit salad to make it a festive dessert!
Expert Tips
- Make-ahead tip: If you’re making this salad a day in advance, toss the apple stars inn a bit of lemon juice to keep them from browning.
- Other shapes: Want to make this a Valentine’s Day fruit salad?? Use heart-shaped cookies cutters instead of stars. Easy breezy!
